Bicheno's Attractions

Attractions

  • Top of the list has to be the Blow Hole and the Foreshore Walking Track- you may have seen other blow holes, but the orange rocks, the brilliant blue of the ocean and the glinting amber colour and the swaying movement of the kelp will take your breath away
  • Whalers Lookout is an easy 10 minute walk to the top, where there are two viewing platforms, one facing east and one facing west - great spot for a picnic lunch!
  • The Denison Beach - if you're into isolation and long stretches of beach without footprints this is for you. Walk far enough north and you will come to "The Porches" rock formations on the beach
  • Rice Pebble Beach - a lovely secluded and protected cove
  • The Gulch and Governor Island Marine Reserve - The glass bottom boat is the best way to enjoy this
  • Diamond Island - makes for a beautiful photo from Redbill Beach, or you can walk out to the island at low tide (but be sure to check the tide times first - you have to get back on the same tide!)
  • Douglas Apsley National Park - only 10 minutes drive from Bicheno. Several excellent long walks, but also a three hour return to the Gorge, or 10 minute return to the lookout or water holes
  • Wineglass Bay sits in the Freycinet National Park and is only half an hour's drive from Bicheno
  • Cape Tourville Lighthouse is about 40 minutes from Bicheno and the National Parks and Wildlife Service have constructed an excellent board walk and viewing platforms out over the ocean - suitable for wheel chairs and strollers
  • Penguin Tours are conducted every night except New Year's eve
  • Fishing or sight seeing boat charters are available from Bicheno and Coles Bay
  • Scuba diving (there is a dive centre in town), and snorkeling
  • Glass bottom boat operates around Governor Island during Summer
  • Vineyards, several close by include Milton, Freycinet, Coombend, Bishops Rock - all do wine tasting and cellar door sales
  • Golf, bowls, tennis
  • Wildlife park, gift shops, cafes
